Getting to the Polls on Election Day

October 29, 2024 by MCS Editor

by Rex Ledesma

If you’re a senior looking to vote on election day, there are plenty of great transportation options to make your voice heard on November 5! Here are some fun ways to get to the polls:

  1. Family and Friends: Why not ask your loved ones for a ride? It’s a great way to bond while ensuring you get to the polls!
  2. Public Transit: Many cities offer accessible public transportation like buses and trains, complete with priority seating for seniors. Be sure to check local schedules for any special services on election day.
  3. Rideshare Services: 511 is a resource for transit information in Southern California that includes services for senior citizens. 511 can provide information on: accessibility, paratransit, services for senior citizens, and park and ride lots.
  4. Rideshare Companies like Lyft and Uber make it easy to get a ride. You can request a ride through a smartphone app or by calling their customer service. You can reach Uber at 1-833-USE-UBER.
  5. Volunteer Driver Programs: Look into local volunteer organizations that provide free or low-cost rides to polling places. Senior centers or community groups often coordinate these helpful services.
  6. Paratransit Services: If you have mobility challenges, paratransit services offer specialized transportation. Just remember to schedule your ride in advance!
  7. Local Government Services: Some local governments may have shuttle services or special programs for elections. Check in with your local election office for details.
  8. Mail-in Ballots: If getting to the polls is tricky, consider voting by mail. It’s a convenient alternative!

No matter how a senior chooses to get to the polls, make sure a plan in advance. This will go a long way to ensure precautions for safety. Remember, every vote counts, and every voice matters!
